Travel Information

Getting There

Flying

Most travellers arrive via Dublin Airport (DUB), well-connected to major European cities and beyond.

Ferry (from the UK/Europe)

You can also reach Dublin by sea - ferries operate from Holyhead (Wales), Liverpool (England), and even France to Dublin Port. Trips from Holyhead take around ~2.5 hours, while longer cross-channel routes (e.g., from France) can take ~18 hrs.

Getting Around

Public Transport

  • Leap Card - reusable transport card for buses, DART trains, and Luas trams (discounted fares and options for visitors).
  • DART - coastal commuter rail, great for seaside spots like Howth or Bray.
  • Luas - light-rail tram system across central areas.
  • Buses & Taxis - Dublin Bus covers the city; taxi apps like FreeNow are common.
  • Walking and cycling are very doable - central Dublin is compact and scenic.

Important Telephone Numbers

  • Garda (Police) - General: 01 666 8000
  • Irish Tourist Assistance Service (ITASC): 01 666 9354 (for tourists who are victims of crime)
